What is Somatic Experiencing® Therapy?
I am trained in a specific modality called Somatic Experiencing®, which was developed by Dr. Peter Levine, and is designed to naturally heal trauma by working directly with the nervous system in the present moment.
Somatic Experiencing® is a process of gently untangling your current physiological responses—such as fight, flight, or freeze—from past experiences. When survival responses from the past remain unresolved, they can manifest in the body as tension, anger, anxiety, panic, disconnection, or depression. Sometimes we can clearly trace these reactions to past events, while other times they feel less defined—but either way, healing is always possible.
In our sessions, we will work together to connect with your body’s present-moment nervous system state. This means slowing down and becoming aware of the thoughts, sensations, and subtle movements that arise. With guidance and support, what has been held inside can slowly and safely release, often bringing a deep sense of relief.
This process is also deeply relational. The places within us that feel stuck or in pain often correspond to moments when we lacked the support we needed. By meeting these places now, in a safe and nurturing environment, your body and mind can begin to release what has been held for so long—creating space for healing, ease, and well-being.
